MyDivert.com Call Forwarding Service - FAQ

Do you have an API available?
Yes, we have an easy-to-use DID API (Application Programming Interface) that is available to our users at no charge. This API may be integrated into your website or application so as to facilitate the purchasing, configuration and maintenance of DIDs by your own customers. Please contact support for further information.

Example - forwarding Calls to Hong Kong
Our company is located in Hong Kong. We export different plastic moulding components worlwide. We have always received lots of international calls from our customers and partners. Before they were calling directly to our telephone number in Hong Kong and their budget for telephone calls was enormous, not to mention that calls were brief and we could not explore many issues.

But now we have purchased several local phone numbers for our key markets and our customers can call us from their offices an even from their mobile phones without worry about the cost.

This has helped us to explore an create stronger interpersonal relationships with our overseas clients. The call quality is as good as we have ever had from normal international calls.

Hencnen HK 2007

What is a SIP URI?
URI Means "Uniform Resource Identifier". A SIP URI is used to identify an entity to be addressed via SIP, just like an e-mail address identifies the e-mail recipient. The general format of a SIP URI is user@domain:port

"user" identifies the particular user to address. The user is usualy the extension number, or sip user number, if calls are being sent to an endpoint like a softphone or voip telephone. The user can also be a phone number, if this is supported by the SIP client (sip trunking for pbx).

"domain" can be a fully-qualified domain name or a numeric IP address.

"port" is optional, and if not specified then the standard value of 5060 will be used.
Examples of valid SIP URIs: 442035638753@sip.mydomain.com or user24@13.17.10.22:5090

Is Porting of Numbers Permitted?
Porting of DID numbers away from Mydivert.com (porting out) is supported. Please note that this facility is not available in all countries. Porting of DID numbers to Mydivert.com (porting in) is currently not supported.

Are the phone numbers individual?
Yes, MyDivert.com provides unique phone numbers to each customer and the number will belong to you for as long as you want it.

If an account at MyDivert.com is closed the associated phone numbers are deleted from our system.

How to configure FreePBX
FreePBX is an easy to use GUI (graphical user interface) that controls and manages Asterisk, the world's most popular open source telephony engine software.

To configure FreePBX with the mydivert.com trunk you will need the following information:

Peer Details - (FreePBX NOT behind NAT router)

[mydivert]
username=ACCOUNT
type=friend
srvlookup=yes
secret=PASSWORD
qualify=3600
nat=no
insecure=very
host=sip.mydivert.com
fromuser=ACCOUNT
fromdomain=sip.mydivert.com
dtmfmode=rfc2833
disallow=all
context=from-trunk
canreinvite=no
authuser=ACCOUNT
allow=alaw&ulaw&gsm&slinear&ilbc
sendrpid=yes

Peer Details - (FreePBX IS behind NAT router)

[general]
externip = PUBLIC-IP
localnet = LOCAL-IP

[mydivert]
username=ACCOUNT
type=friend
srvlookup=yes
secret=PASSWORD
qualify=3600
nat=yes
qualify = yes
insecure=very
host=sip.mydivert.com
fromuser=ACCOUNT
fromdomain=sip.mydivert.com
dtmfmode=rfc2833
disallow=all
context=from-trunk
canreinvite=no
authuser=ACCOUNT
allow=alaw&ulaw&gsm&slinear&ilbc
sendrpid=yes

Register String

ACCOUNT:PASSWORD@sip.mydivert.com/ACCOUNT

Note: replace ACCOUNT and PASSWORD with the relevant MyDivert credentials.

An Inbound Route needs to be set up too. We suggest for testing purposes leaving all fields blank/default settings except the destination which could perhaps be set to a voicemail box (to eliminate potential problems with extension device settings - during testing) - then using FreePBX to monitor the voicemail box.

If you wish to add a DID number to the incoming route please ensure that the SIP trunking service has been enabled for your mydivert.com account. You can then add the DID number in the context (named 'from-trunk' in the example above).

If you do not have SIP trunking enabled then add a route for the ACCOUNT number, or any/any.

{If any user wishes to extend or correct the information above, please send an email to support[at]mydivert.com - thank you}

Caller ID on outbound Calls
From your account page you have the options to set the caller ID number (CID) to be sent with oubound calls.

The options are;

Anonymous: 'anonymous' is sent
Caller ID DID Number: the selected DID number will be sent
Set by user device: a valid CID sent by the user device will be sent.

Note: how exactly a recipient network chooses to display CID is not a metter under our control. For example, some networks will not display a CID unless the CID number originates from the termination network.

There are also some issues caused by what is known as Caller ID Name. CID name is only supported by some networks. We set CID name = 'anonymous'. If CID is 'Set by user device' we will pass the CID name sent.

If you choose 'Set by user device' this is only likely to work if the CID is properly sent and probaly more suited to pbx users.

Which codecs do you support?
We support the standard codecs G.711a, G.711u and G.729 for DID calls. We additionaly support GSM, G726, SLIN, and SPEEX for registered SIP clients.
